About Our Initiative

Welcome to our 6th grade learning journey!

Culture of Reader’s Journey is a home for readers to discover books that have touched the hearts of a diverse group of students and teachers. We pride ourselves in sharing our passion for reading and hope that this blog will allow us to tear down the walls of our classroom to share our experiences with the world. It is here where we will share our struggles, our ideas, our challenges, and our goals. We hope that through our blogs we will you  to pick up your “next great read” and in turn share that book with others.

We like to look at our student reading blogs like a modern library! Check out their student blogs (linked on the home page) to see what students are reading and where they are at on their Culture of Reader’s journey!

Happy blogging!

#ReadIt

Purpose: The purpose behind the #ReadIt is to have students create, support and encourage reading throughout their school, community and world. It is helping to empower students to make a difference and LOVE reading.

Overview: Students are given a voice to share out their own reading journey. Every few weeks they are responsible for one of the projects from the #ReadIt menu. This menu item will be completed with the library or classroom book they are currently reading. We pride ourselves in reading GREAT books and being familiar with newly published books. You might see an ARC (advanced reading copy) featured on a student page as well. Sit down, grab a cup of coffee or your favorite beverage and get ready to add to your TBR (to be read) list!

Option #1: Book preview with a connecting book

Option #2 Audio excerpt of a book

Option #3: Powerful quote + visual graphic

Option #4: Option #4: Good Reads review

What is a Culture of Readers?

At Hopewell, we frequently talk about being ‘A Culture of Readers’.  These students have immersed themselves into creating a vision and a plan that will align their own reading passions, with a unique idea that will inspire others as well. We have also formed a TED ED club to document our journey and support others around the world as we seek to make a difference. Our ideas are coming to life. We invite you to share our excitement in bringing books alive, connecting readers and authors and talking about great literature.
